Not sure if I am right on this, but I believe the first tip is suggesting utilizing The Rule of Thirds. Most smartphones have the 9 square grid built-in to use this rule, and you can read more about it here:

The rule of thirds is based on the idea that placing the main elements of an image off-center creates a better looking composition for the photo. As such, it seems like the rule of thirds rule is a combination of tips 1 and 2, dealing with the size and location of our main subject!
