i've heard of some simulations modeling things like flocks of birds or schools of fish as "boids", basically particle systems that follow a very reductive set of rules which actually result in very realistic-looking emergent behavior

I think the idea of analyzing physics and behavior of birds can allow us to model them as particles is so cool.
