Lecture 21: Virtual Reality (36)

I wonder what is the limiting factor or feature that needs to be improved most for VR headsets in every generation. Smartphones used to continue to push to improve battery life, display resolution/brightness, speed, thinness. I wonder what are the important benchmarks of a headset that need to be continuously improved.

@ericyche When it comes to all in one headsets like the Quest, the most important factor would have to be speed as well, as it's effectively running off of a smartphone chip. More VR specific improvements would take the form what ends up being seen, such as the field of view, the type of lenses being used, and the type of display. Of course, resolution and brightness also play a part, the recent Playstation VR2 is one of the first headsets to have an HDR display.

I find this quite interesting, I remember there was a cardboard VR set where you could put your phone in and experience VR although probably not even near as close a level of experience with a proper headset. I wonder how long it will take phones to reach that level
