For those wondering, I found this definition helpful: Metamerism is a phenomenon that occurs when two colors appear to match under one lighting condition, but not when the light changes. Metameric matches are quite common, especially in near neutral colors like grays, whites, and dark colors.

But I'm not sure how one would quantify this wrt power and wavelength? How do you tell if there is Metamerism from numbers alone?

@rsha256 here is a source that has a diagram that can show how you can use the numbers to check for metamerism (this one only using reflectance for the power)- when two objects have the same power values at multiple different specific wavelengths, that is when under similar lighting conditions they can look similar
