I wonder if this is something that might need to be compensated for in graphics, like could an image be produced to technically be correct but look off to people because of the surround effect?

@tilenull I think its hard to say an image is "technically" correct when it comes to color, but I know in traditional art the surround effect is definitely something that has to be actively compensated for. There was a big trend on the internet where people would comment on how crazy color theory is when they take a color out of context on a drawing. I think the only technically correct thing when it comes to visuals is the one that looks right.
