Besides the obvious methods of mitigation of reducing exposure time or lowering temperature, there are other techniques such as taking a "dark frame" by taking an exposure of equal length but with the shutter closed, and then subtracting this in post-processing.

Seems like a solid idea, not sure if the noise is so random that the thermal noise from the "dark frame" would be uncorrelated with that from the actual photo.
