Lecture 5: Texture Mapping (57)
jonathanlu31

Does the parallelogram represent one texel sample? And do the squares represent the screen pixels?

StaffMichaelRenMR

It's the other way around. The parallelogram represents one screen pixel mapped onto the texture. Each little square represents a single texel in the texture.

Crucial question, thanks for asking it!

And for all students: why is the projection of the screen pixel ("footprint") into this texture image look like a parallelogram?

Challenge question: could it be anything other than a parallelogram? If so, what, and how? If not, why? Hints by considering the image on this slide and considering the pixels at different locations in the screen-space rendering on the left on this slide.
