Supersampling is very costly, but is there ever a situation where it's actually used, despite the high cost? Doing a little bit of digging showed that there's quite a lot of common patterns of supersampling, but not much indication of when you might actually use this over other kinds of antialiasing. Is this more of a strawman method (ie it sounds relatively intuitive but is effectively unusable), or was it previously used until people found better solutions, or are there still cases where it's the most appropriate antialiasing method?
