Lecture 8: Mesh Representations and Geometry Processing (35)
LucasArmand

When subdividing, we have the effect of "smoothing out" some course mesh, as we see in this slide. What I'm wondering is whether or not the net effect of this "smoothing" can be described in one mathematical expression. For example, if we perform loop-subdivision on a cube, is there some way that we can explicitly define the effect of the "smoothing" (corner radius, spatial curvature, etc.) beyond the description of the algorithmic steps taken to reach that smoothed state? Or, is the effect of the smoothing only able to be defined from those algorithmic steps and nothing else.
