The professor very briefly mentioned that 2D anti-aliasing is a type of 2D integral. I don't understand this, though. It is my understanding that integrals are fundamentally continuous, but anti-aliasing is fundamentally discrete. If the super-sampling is infinitesimally small, then this makes a little more sense as I understand integration is taking the infinitesimally small sum sum (which can be used to calculate average), but I don't entirely understand how this is a form of 2D integration.

@wilrothman Area sampling involves averaging the colors of all the points within the area of the pixel, which is similar to integrating the color function over the 2D area of the pixel.
