Path tracing looks nicer in this example compared to direct lighting because the hallway gets brighter despite the light source being blocked by the arches. However, there could be potential drawbacks to using this method such as the extra time it would take to render scenes that use path tracing compared to ones that use direct lighting.

In terms of visible elements of the scene, there is no doubt that path tracing allows us to see more. In hyper stylized, comic book, or just dark (lighted) movies, direct lighting might be more effective for rendering elements.
