Ren made a comment about how this part of computer graphics, attempts to simulate realistic lighting by calculating light propagation, is what really made him interested in studying computer graphics. He cited it being scientifically based as it requires understanding the physical principles behind light behavior and using mathematics to model it.

I appreciate Ren sharing this, it made me respect this material a bit more as it is unique for my computer science class to have a connection to physics and nature.

Adding on to Colin's appreciative moment, I find it fascinating that something as fundamental as the rendering equation took three attempts of wording the paper by its author before finally being reviewed and published. This story adds another insight into computer graphics not just being fancy ways to render pictures but also demands a fundamental understanding of physics to create realistic lighting among other aspects.
