I see a rendering like this, and I wonder what improvements are generally made in real-world modeling (like for movies, for example), or if there are significant and not super expensive improvements that even can be made for these types renderings? Just curious

One area of improvement lies in the refinement of rendering algorithms and techniques. Advances in physically based rendering (PBR), global illumination, and ray tracing technologies continue to push the boundaries of what's achievable in terms of lighting accuracy, material representation, and overall visual quality. Techniques like path tracing and photon mapping can greatly enhance the realism of rendered scenes, albeit at potentially higher computational costs.

Yes! To add on to S-Muddana, consider the other applications outside of film. For example, there is a great deal of work being done in the video game industry (and funnily enough, AVs as well) to work on real-time rendering and realistic modeling.
