We can see more of the outer world as we get closer to the lens

It seems like it is also possible to increase your FOV without changing your focal length by increasing the size of your sensor

From what I understand, we need to have the factor of 1/2 because the angle is measured with respect to the bisecting line, and thus its tangent is 0.5h / f as we can observe

charshou

Would the type of the lens used also affect the FOV at all? I would imagine it could at least have some impact.

el-refai

There is also some additional nuance to this though where given a fixed sensor the smaller FOV does mean that you have better resolution.

omijimo

How would this affect the final image as opposed to other ways of increasing FOV?

amritamo

In response to charshou, the type of lens used directly influences the field of view of the camera, with wide-angle lenses providing wider views, standard lenses offering a natural perspective, and telephoto lenses providing narrower, magnified views.

The higher the focal length, the lower the FOV. So the 18mm lens can take a wider landscape than the 200mm lens.
