I've heard that triangles are the most simple and stable structures for building physical structures; maybe some of the concepts are similar here! Curious for quads: are calculations like rotations, renders, etc, done on them in graphics more intensive computationally? Maybe quads are open represented as triangles underneath

I never quite understood why Solidworks FEA defaults to triangles in their meshing, but especially to the point about guaranteed planarity, it makes sense when trying to define a 3D model and then calculate for forces, fixtures, etc. because it's much easier to solve a 2D planar question than a 3D one. Easier interpolation probably also means faster software use and faster results
