The notion of the "center" of a pixel is very confusing to me, since I’ve been under the impression that pixels in the software sense are discrete abstractions over hardware.
I also noted that this slide displays the pixels with gaps, but I thought they form a (theoretically) contiguous 2-D grid.
My preconceptions about pixels are from a web/CSS background, so maybe I’m unfairly generalizing the web model of a pixel to all of computer graphics.
