Looking at the CIELAB, I don't see the dark blue value that is at around (0.18, 0.0) on the CIE 1931 diagram. How do they accommodate this color?

I did a project where I had to reconstruct images from small bits, and choosing CIELAB colorspace made the results better, even though the underlying representation stayed rgb, and cielab was only for comparison. This was unintuitive for me, as i though a simple SAD would give better results because we strive from rgb to rgb

CIELAB basically takes the measurements from CIEXYZ and turns them into numbers that makes sense to humans ie numbers that represent colors that the human eye can see. Therefore, this makes CIELAB a perceptual uniform color space.
