If you didn't watch the lecture, the Professor mentioned different ways to change the output color including rotating the prism or shifting the 2nd slit.

I have heard that spectrometers have been used to discover new exo-planets. When an exoplanet passes in front of its parent star (an event called a transit), the light from the star passes through the exoplanet's atmosphere before reaching Earth. Spectrometers can analyze this light, splitting it into its component wavelengths, revealing absorption lines that correspond to the elements present in the exoplanet's atmosphere. You can even tell the chemical composition a planet based on the absorption lines.

How does a spectrometer function to distinguish between different wavelengths of light? What are the underlying principles and mechanisms that allow a spectrometer to separate and measure these wavelengths accurately? Additionally, what specific components or technologies are typically used within a spectrometer to ensure precise analysis and interpretation of the light spectrum?
