Lecture 21: Image Sensors (14)
S-Muddana

Active pixel sensors were originally developed for use in space exploration. They were initially employed in spacecraft cameras due to their ability to capture high-quality images while consuming minimal power and space. Over time, their compact size, low power consumption, and high sensitivity made them ideal for applications beyond space missions such as digital cameras and medical devices.

From what Professor Ng is saying on this slide - early sensors just used DRAM because the photoelectric effect would allow photons bounced off to affect the values stored in the DRAM. Did I get that right (if so, that's super cool)?
