I'm not sure if this is related to this slide, but it reminded me of an antialiasing technique I encountered a while back which is sub-pixel. It would use the fact that a pixel is built up of smaller light sources, and so change the color to create a better shape. For example, if it were trying to render a line from the top right to bottom left, it might changer the shown pixel to have red and green (yellow), and no blue, even if the line is white.
