Considering the different details in graphics caused by lighting was interesting as it connected to my Geology class on examining rocks which also focuses on the different effects of light under certain conditions to illuminate rocks differently

@yangbright-2001 I was thinking the same thing, and as someone who paints occasionally, it's interesting to see these concepts from a programmer's lens vs. an artist's lens. When studying how to render different materials (and lighting in general), artists also learn of these different light/shadow types in order to better realistically render objects/scenes. It's also cool to explore the ingenious math behind rendering these seemingly small details.
