Why is this an infinite dimensional integral?

We are trying to estimate all light bounces in the scene. In reality, light rays bounce around a scene infinitely, which makes this an infinite dimensional integral.

In reality, is it actually infinite? I read here that a light bounces until eventually the light is absorbed https://www.pluralsight.com/blog/film-games/understanding-global-illumination
