So, we essentially don't have a uniform projection of light reflected. Reminds me of multivariate Gaussians where anisotropic implies different variances under a vector mean and you get these really funky looking ellipse isocontours of different radii. Same case here, the distribution is uneven in different directions causing light to focused only in select portions.
