Lecture 19: Introduction to Character Animations (40)

I am still confused about how the Corrective Blend Shapes could solve the issue of LBS, specifically the 180 degree rotation case like the left image?

better rotation averaging is usually slow and not linear. instead, we use corrective blend shapes; we change the shape of the original model in order to offset the artifacts of LBS; for example, thicker limbs may make odd folding at the joints look normal after posing.

The left image is hard, as we tried in the SMPL demo in class pose blend shapes does not account well for this very extreme case (thankfully, it's doesn't really happen in practice).
