The reason why some may interpret the front brown square as orange is because the color we see does not only depend on the light arriving our eyes, but also because of the context. When we perceive the front face of the cube being in the shadow, we will take this context into consideration and judge the square as in orange color.

I found this illusion particularly interesting. I even tried to look at those spots in isolation on my own, and my brain was still tricking me into thinking they were different colors.
