It seems what types of components are included in a GPU (e.g. tessellation units) is largely determined by the current way that graphics software do things. I wonder if GPUs are designed with a different architecture (i.e. with different components) for say the movie industry, where extremely high graphics quality is required, to meet the specific needs of their specialized software.
