One thing that's of interest to me in this area is emulating the texture of film with digital cameras. DP Steve Yedlin worked on tech that attempts to do this (Star Wars The Last Jedi, which he shot both on film and digital, is a demo of his tech) by adding film effects such as the grain (through a probability-based algorithm), halation, and gate weave, and the cinematic color rendition (through tone mapping and 3D geometry). Here's an example of what it looks like. It's something I'd love to delve into with the knowledge I gain from this class.

I LOVE cameras too! It has been amazing to see how the technologies on cameras have evolved in these years. From film to DSLR, and from DSLR to mirrorless. Not only are the CMOS in those cameras evolving, but so do the image processors, for tasks like auto-focus and video recording. It is just interesting to see that computational photography is playing a more and more important role in photography.
