It's interesting how the focus length not only zooms in/out but also compresses/expands the sense of space. The change of background perspective is actually pretty dramatic, and it could be a huge plus in photography when being used well -- a good example could be Dolly Zoom.

It's really interesting how when the focal length is increased, we simultaneously lost the background around the edges of the image, but gain a better view of the background around the center, revealing things behind the subject that were completely obscured before
