Lecture 15: Cameras & Lenses (47)

I am a bit confused. Why 2 is the double of 1.4 ???

CeHao1

I finally understand the meaning. The F-stop is actually a way to calculate the diameter of the aperture, but what we really need this the area of this aperture. So 1.4^2=1.96, 2*2=4, 2.8^2=7.84, 16, 31.36, 64, 121. So the double is with respect to the area.
