For some reason, even though I had heard about color being linear from every discussion of computer generated colors in the past, it had never occurred to me that some colors just wouldn't be physically reproducible from RGB. But it does make perfect sense that some solutions would just have "negative" values, which are mathematically logical but just physically irreproducible.
