Lecture 19: Image Sensors (2)

These robot arms seem to be very common now, even outside of explicitly robot environments. The other day, I was at a mall and there was a robot arm that made coffee for people, which I thought was pretty cool.

As someone who's currently taking robotics, imaging for robotics is crucial, and errors in imaging can easily propagate into errors for more complicated tasks like grasping. Interestingly, knowing where the camera is is also important, just like in this course

It's cool to see technology improving so rapidly. I remember when I was a little kid, these arms would only be able to move fixed blocks to spell out your name. Now they can recognize all sorts of different objects and interact with them.

@bernard I've seen those too! It's impressive to see how much these robotic arms have advanced in such a short time- I remember seeing a robotic arm at a technology museum when I was little that was state of the art at the time, and it was programmed to solve a tower of Hanoi by picking up the rings and moving them left to right. It's amazing how much more these arms are capable of now!
