In Music 158A (Sound and Music Computing with CNMAT Technologies), we watched the same video when learning about manipulating frequencies from the audio-perspective. The Center for New Music and Technology at Berkeley works on really neat audio tech that overlaps with these ideas, working upon the Max 8 software. https://cycling74.com/products/max. Cool to check out if you're interested in this from the audio-side of things!

You can also do some really cool visual things with Max 8 too. You can pipe in commands to different boxes and add in a metronome or a button that change the color of each box. And if you have enough boxes, you can have them act kind of like pixels and make your own images. It's a really versatile platform. I was even able to make a basic RPG game out of it.
