signal on x-axis in freq domain means that there is variation along x direction in spatial domain

There seems to be a slight typo on this slide and many of the following ones- the x should be inside of the parentheses for the sine, since otherwise, sin(2pi/32) is just a constant and so the function as written would give a linear gradient along the x direction rather than the periodic image displayed.

The reason why the black and white strips in the spatial domain are vertical but the points in the frequency domain lies horizontally is that in the spatial domain, the colour stays the same along the vertical strips, but changes horizontally from black to white or from white to black.
