I thought it was interesting the history of the cornell box and the adaptations that people had for the contents and visuals for the rendering of the scene as a result of different algorithms and computations used

I wonder if there are any metrics that are used to compute how close our rendering quality gets to the ground truth photograph of the cornell box. How are different confounding factors like lens distortions/color temperature taken into account?
