What are the advantages of volume rendering? What types of objects could be modeled with volume rendering that can't be modeled with the rasterization pipeline?

The key here is that volume rendering allows us to have that transparency in the image. As well as having a complex shape with details that can't be captured with a rasterization pipeline. Volume rendering is used for medical imagery for the reasons listed above.

re: the texture, I thought it was cool how the vendor shows how the textures are seamless in different ways - how is could wrap around a sphere or how it would look with one object on top of it, with the same texture. It's almost pattern like, but not actually repeating like the issue shown in slide 18. The different height and light map options were cool to see side by side as well.
