Lecture 18: Intro to Animation (3)

In CS180 last semester, there was a grad student from BAIR who presented some interesting research on motion capture real time for physical movements.

I think this video is interesting! It discusses the technology behind motion capture, including suits without sensors designed for high visibility, and the software used to interpret the captured data. It covers the tedious process of tracking and labeling each marker in every frame: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0mLfzbmqcg

It's interesting how we're moving between the paradigms of modeling the universe (simplified physics simulations), to getting that information from the world (through motion capture). I wonder if there are opinions about which is more informative/robust (reminds me of rotoscoping in animation)

I found this really interesting! It reminds me of whenever I watch the behind the scenes videos of how NBA 2k is animated and similar sports games. I wonder how generative AI and things like Sora will change the need for this in the future?
