I found a cool article that describes how hot pixels can happen not just become of manufacturing defects but also due to radiation in space from the HST! They describe a super dark subtraction method which is similar to Solution#2 in the slideshow. They also try to classify between warm and hot pixels depending on the levels of the dark current. The sensors undergo an annelearing process once a month which reduces the population of hot pixels which is pretty interesting!
