What does this "emitted radiance" refer?

I got it. It is zero outside the light sources.

To clarify, does this mean Le(p, w) is the emission coming from a light source in direction w, so that it is 0 if p is not a light source? (i.e. zero bounce radiance in our project)

@sandykzhang Yes, you are right. Le(p,w) is 0 if the object is not a light source
