How closely do we zoom in to determine the smoothness of a surface? Looking at fractals/coastline problem etc, where the more we zoom in the more surface area we have. Is this just a property of the mesh?


Are there other competing theories for this? Seems like the microfacet theory works pretty well and makes a lot of intuitive sense.
