Lecture 14: Material Modeling (39)

I understand how the microstructures are affecting light reflection, but how would you come up with/generate these microfibers when choosing to render a material?

My guess would be that you'd want to model it after after examples of how the microfiber is structured in the in the real world. In many cases, you could take advantage of patterns in the material to simplify generation, although increasingly complex patterns probably won't help with rendering times.
