I am kind of confused why a plano-convex lens like this would be used over a biconvex lens, since it seems the biconvex lens would focus the rays to a single point.

@dwang733 Plano-convex lenses can focus the rays to a single point as well, this slide is showing that in the real world imperfections often cause them to not converge the rays.
