The paper "Autocomplete Hand Drawn Animations" was pretty interesting because it tries to predict "temporal and spatial repetitions" in traditional 2d animation so that you don't have to draw every detail in each frame. It would be interesting to see how this system could incorporate these more general aesthetic rules about motion in animation because the result lacks that right now.
