Tying together concepts regarding the Spectral Power Distribution, here's a cool youtube video (https://bit.ly/2TZLYP2) describing how to make a do it yourself spectrometer that the authors then use to generate their own SPDs on a computer. The spectrometer is able to analyze infrared and UV light too. Based on the range of wavelengths different animals can see, it's a cool visualization of how different animals perceive the same color due to the lack or increase of natural, infrared, and UV light sources!

Is the purpose of the first slit simply to isolate light from the light source?
