Since the quantum efficiency plays a factor in the signal to noise ratio, I wonder if this means that human vision is "noisy" compared to other animals with higher quantum efficiency in their eyes. Perhaps there are visual artifacts that we experience every day that other creatures do not.

How does SNR change relative to aperture, focal distance, etc., and how can we derive/calculate this relation?
