It walks through how compression works for a regular image, putting both the math and actual visual transformations side by side for one to observe. I particularly enjoyed the visualization of how values are quantified and then reordered.

This makes me interested in how other image compression schemes work, especially lossless ones like PNG. I'm also curious if there a technical reason why JPG seems to dominate the lossy image formats.
