It’s crazy to see how far VR has gone from the earliest immersive technology such as Sensorama in the 60’s which attempted to give users the experience of riding a motorcycle by simulating noise, wind, smell and view. There is some pretty interesting current research being done in this kind of immersive technology called Augmented Reality Flavors where people can change the taste of something they’re eating. I remember going to a Maker Faire in 2012 and wearing a massive backpack and putting on some crude goggles and holding modified Wii remotes to participate in a makeshift VR experience. Just 3 years later at SIGGRAPH, I got to try the Oculus Crescent Bay Headset and its clear that progress is moving faster than ever.
