How long will it take for these changes to get implemented? I hear conflicting opinions on whether or not VR will be the next "platform" similar to what mobile phones did in the early 2000s. I would imagine these improvements would need to be implemented in order for that to happen. Is it feasible within the next few years?

It is certainly feasible to see within the next few years. Perhaps an innovative use case is needed to capture the public interest.
