After watching lecture, I looked into Piecewise Bezier Curves to see their real world applications. The wiki article on this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_Bézier_curve) linked me to PostScript, where apparently such curves can be used to describe the outline of each letter of the file.
