The 4D light field is the composition of 2D on focal plane position and 2D on lens plane position. These two points can specify a light ray in the 3D world, thus sufficient to describe the radiance along each ray.

I thought that this model of representation was very interesting. Specifically, the model on the right makes so much sense to make it a more simple model that will make digital imaging more easy to understand.
