Lecture 16: Intro to Animation (29)

One example that shows why this is so important is trying to play games with low framerates and how unrealistic it starts to become as objects start jittering and teleporting everywhere.

I think the above is a good example. Another way to resonate the idea here is the nonlinear animations for, for example opening and closing apps on our phones. Certain Android devices do not have a as good animation so it would feel very weird and unrealistic. The nonlinear characteristics of the animation is also quite important as it mimics the movements of objects in the real world.

Both commenters above provided excellent examples of why follow through animations are so important, and how much of an effect they can have on things we experience daily. Like @StephenYangjz said, mimicking the behavior of objects in the real world helps make animations appear seamless. I feel like if these animations aren't present, then we would notice right away, but when they are our minds see it as something to be expected, and it appears "normal" to us.
